There was a journalist at the Columbia Review who was preparing a huge exposé on insider trading at a giant Wall Street firm. He had names, places, and copies of transactions. Patrick Byrne (http://www.deepcapture.com) mentioned this story. The journalist was warned several times to stop. Then one night, about two weeks from publishing, a man confronted him in a bookstore. He was told to drop the story or they'd kill his young daughter.

Following money trails at the local level is dangerous. Doing it at the national level can be suicidal. That being said, if I had more info I would share it, but I don't.

What I didn't mention was those put options have a trail going to the White House. You might be interested in Harken Energy and how GW backdated options prior to Harken's implosion, just prior to his father's war in the desert. There are also insider trading issues dealing with Morgan Stanley and the White House that will never surface. I didn't push the money trail issue due to concern for my own safety.
